About
Hailing from Zoetermeer, Netherlands, Ivar Pijper has been captivated by the piano since the age of four, when a toy piano sparked what would become a lifelong passion. His early musical influences, ranging from Michael Jackson and Prince to Frank Zappa, laid a diverse foundation that has evolved over the years to include artists like Sufjan Stevens, Tim Christensen, and Rufus Wainwright. As a pianist, Ivar draws inspiration from the timeless works of Chopin and Debussy.
Formally trained under the guidance of Rob van der Linden, during his high school years Ivar honed his skills in both piano performance and music theory at the Conservatory of Rotterdam. His musical journey includes being the keyboardist and main composer for Anomaly, an instrumental prog-rock quartet that garnered underground success. Following this, Ivar co-wrote, co-produced, and released an album with the pop/rock band BuckShot, before leading the cover band jeWelste.
In 2022, inspired by the accessible yet emotive music of Ludovico Einaudi and Yann Tiersen, Ivar embarked on a new creative path, dedicating himself to writing solo piano pieces. Over the course of a year and a half, he composed nine original pieces that will soon be released as his debut solo piano album. While his compositions nod to the minimalism of his influences, they also seek to explore deeper musical development, reflecting Ivar's philosophical perspective on the world as a place of wonder and beauty.
Stay tuned for the release of Ivar Pijper's debut solo piano works, where each note tells a story of a life steeped in music and thought.
